Just starting my search for a compact tractor. Saw an ad for a MF 1035 4WD, 930 hrs, has a bucket loader, front snowplow and 5' finish mower asking $12,500. Questions?1)Year? 2)H.P.? 3)Good price? Any comments pro or con would be appreciated. Thanks. Dave

I purchased a 1987 Massey Ferguson 1030 over a year ago. The 1030 was built from 1984 to 1991 by Hinomoto (Japan). Toysha makes the 26 hp (23hp at PTO. The gray market equivalent is the Hinomoto E2304. The MF1035 is described in my manual and it appears to be almost identical but with a larger engine (31hp and 26 hp at the PTO). Both weigh 2700 lbs with 4 wheel drive. I am very hapy with my MF1030. It had 945 hours on it and I have added about 50 hours with no problems. It starts easily at any temperature (Minnesota weather). I have a MF1016 front loader and a new Woods 5 foot rear finishing mower. I filled the rear tires with CaCl to get better traction with the loader and reduce load on front 4 wheel drive. With the turf tires I can easily plow my road with the front bucket w/o chains. It has 12 gears and I like the low gears for manuevering in close spaces. It seems well built in all respects. There is some discussion of front end problems and engine head problems in the MF strings but mine seems to be working perfectly with no sign of any wear. If major parts are needed, it appears from the strings that they can be purchased directly from Japan at much lower prices. I believe I payed about $10,500 for the tractor, loader, and new Woods mower. It has faded paint but no dents or rust and everything was working except rear lights which took 20 minutes to fix.

I have a couple of numbers for Hinomoto tractor parts. I have not needed any parts that I couln't get at the MF dealer and therefore, I have never tried them.
